THE SUBVERSIVE FORCE OF CHIRON
CHIRON is not a planet but a comet that orbits erratically between Saturn and Uranus, between the outer limits of the personal forces and the gateway of the transpersonal forces. Astrological Chiron represents a bridge between the personal and the transpersonal, borrowing attributes from both Saturn (structure) and Uranus (freedom) in a unique capacity for the creative destruction (Uranus) of consensus reality constructs (Saturn) towards producing alternative, or subversive, versions of whatever reality is represented in its House placement. Chiron represents the Maverick Within, the Outsider, or as I prefer to see it as a modern archetype of The Punk Rocker. Chiron was discovered in 1977 when the Sex Pistols upturned the music and fashion industries for decades to come. When unintegrated, natal Chiron can indicate where (the House) and how (the Sign) we tend to subvert or sabotage our intentions; until Chiron is integrated, let's call it your point of self-sabotage.
Remember, Chiron orbits between Saturn and Uranus. Natal Chiron can be integrated to the degree we have integrated Saturn and to the degree Uranus has integrated the personal ego. In the model of Astrology, we can sabotage ourselves in at least twelve ways (the Houses). If your chart does not contain Chiron it simply means the astrology program that produced it did not include Chiron. (If you don't have Chiron, e-mail me and I will send you the specs for your natal Chiron).
Your knowledge of the Houses is paramount to grasping the nature of Chiron in your chart. Wherever Chiron resides is where any attempt to conform to consensus models or structures become subverted and undermined. If we attempt to adapt mainstream consensus ways of going about experiences in Chiron's House, we will tend to trip over ourselves and get in our own way; self-sabotage. Until Chiron is integrated, it can remain a source of unconscious self-sabotage. After Chiron is integrated, we become as into intentional saboteurs, consciously subverting consensus realities by producing alternative visions and definitions for circumstances and activities related to Chiron's House. We become as a force of conscious subversion. SUBVERT OR BE SUBVERTED.
AN EXAMPLE
I have Chiron in the 3rd House (in Capricorn). If I want to educate myself or communicate my perceptions or use language (all 3rd house activities), I have to bypass the consensus models of how that's done or my foot ends up in my mouth. Literally, I start stuttering. Integrating my Chiron, I have learned to act as a conscious force of subversion to mainstream intellectual norms by presenting alternative ways of learning, thinking, and talking (my books and this online course offer examples). With Capricorn, I simply cannot succeed or have a career (typical Capricorn concerns) unless it's totally on my own subversive terms. Every attempt to conform to society's ideas of success and career has left me feeling humiliated. I am now a confirmed Chirotic agent who only conforms to my own subversions.
WEEK 4 RESEARCH TASK #2:
Sabotaging the Saboteur
Sabotaging the Saboteur
Locate your natal Chiron to identify any patterns of undermining your intentions when attempting to conform to external standards. Then, discover or create alternative approaches and models to reclaim that State as your own. How would you like to act as a conscious force of subversion? Chiron's Style gives clues. What status quo ideas or beliefs or structures in Chiron's State are worth subverting?
1) Locate Chiron and find your own patterns of self-sabotage.
2) Locate Saturn and Uranus and ask yourself if you think
there is enough integration (maturity) to integrate Chiron.
3) If you lack experience with Saturn and Uranus, Chiron may not be
integrated beyond its conceptualization (still, a good place to start).
4) If Saturn and Uranus show integration in your life, ask yourself
if you are ready to act as a conscious force of subversion to the
mainstream consensus models in Chiron's State and then,
find ways to rock that boat.
